Our Team

A Los Angeles implant but California native, Melissa moved in 2004 to pursue her education at the Paul Mitchell school in southern California. With a passion for hair design and color she pursued every avenue and learning experience she could. From production of TV and Film to elaborate Avant-Garde hair shows and even Representing Paul Mitchell as a National Educator for 5+ years. Though, she found that her passion was always being behind the chair, One on One with her clients. She loves to create personalized looks that help her clients see on the outside what they feel on the inside. After a long journey of working in different salons. Melissa decided it was time to build something of her own. A place, for her, that would make people feel warm and welcome the moment they walked in the door. A nook of joy and love in the midst of all the activity. Enter Comb & Honey. Represented by a Honey Bee which is what "Melissa" translates to. "I really wanted my heart and soul to be felt when you enter the building. This is my way of 'seeing on the outside what I feel on the inside'. Its my favorite part of my job. when people look in the mirror and say 'Im so proud to be me today' that's what I want everyday, for everyone".

Today she gets to expand on those offerings ten fold with the addition of Kari and Sophia,  "Honestly, How does it get better than this?"

Melissa loves to learn and create, she specializes in creative and organic color palates but loves to cut and form beautiful geometries as well. "Lets build something together".

Born and raised in the SF Bay Area, Sophia has always gravitated towards sculpture and working with her hands. Dedicated to her artisanry, her passion for hair stems from her love of creating shapes that pair seamlessly with people’s faces, and helps present the individual in their best way. Moving to Los Angeles in 2009, she went to Toni & Guy Academy for cosmetology school in Santa Monica. To further her knowledge she worked as an assistant in NY for a year then taking a position assisting a very skilled stylist in Beverly Hills for 2.5 years of intensive cut and blow dry training. Sophia branched off after that to start taking her own clientele, moving away from BH and settling in at the Powder Room in Silverlake. Sophia loves getting to know and figuring out her clients, strongly believing that the trust that is built is what creates something that feels beautiful in the chair and out in the world. She loves passing on quick styling tricks and low maintenance products so that you feel like having good hair on a daily basis is achievable. She primarily cuts dry in order to have more control over the length and movement of the hair, specializing in smooth layers, blunt bobs, bangs, and curly hair.

Kari is a Los Angeles native who has been doing hair color for over 10 years. She began her career with the sole purpose of mastering color, training under some of the best colorists in the nation in Beverly Hills. After 8 years of both training and working at multiple celebrity salons (Byron & Tracey, Meche, Ramirez Tran) she went on a trip to India, had a mini “Eat, Pray, Love” moment and finally decided to give up the drive and start anew near her home on the east side of LA. She partnered up with her best friend and master cutter @sophiasklansky at the powder room in silver lake, where she spent the past two years making all who she had the pleasure of seeing even that much more gorgeous before finding her home here at Comb and Honey. It’s now been over a year and she couldn’t be happier! With her extensive training in both balayage and foil highlights, let her guide you to a look that makes you feel like the best “you” and that compliments your budget and lifestyle. Growing up in the sand and sun, she has a deep love for BLONDES, regardless of your “roots” she will help steer you towards a head of hair with natural dimension and an easier grow-out. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her two dogs, gardening, hiking and making pottery.
